About SIMS

Leadership and Clinical Governance

How the hospital is run, who is accountable for clinical quality, and the committees that review outcomes, infection control and patient safety.

Structure

SIMS is led by a management team responsible for strategy, finance and infrastructure, and a medical administration responsible for clinical standards, staffing, credentialing and patient safety. The two functions are deliberately separate so that clinical decisions are not driven by commercial ones.

Each clinical department has a head of department accountable for protocols, consultant rostering, audit and the training of junior staff within that speciality.

Governance committees

Standing committees that meet on a fixed schedule and report to the medical administration.

Medical Advisory Committee

Reviews clinical policies, treatment protocols, consultant privileges and significant clinical incidents.

Infection Control Committee

Monitors hospital-acquired infection rates, antibiotic usage, hand hygiene compliance, sterilisation audits and biomedical waste handling.

Quality & Patient Safety Committee

Tracks safety indicators, near-miss reporting, medication errors, falls and patient feedback, and drives corrective action.

Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee

Maintains the hospital formulary, reviews high-cost and high-risk medicines and monitors adverse drug reactions.

Blood Transfusion Committee

Reviews transfusion practice, appropriateness and reactions, and coordinates with the blood bank.

Grievance Redressal Committee

Reviews patient complaints, ensures responses within committed timelines and identifies systemic causes.

Clinical accountability for every admitted patient

  • One named consultant holds primary responsibility for the case throughout the admission
  • Cross-speciality opinions are documented in the case notes with the recommending consultant identified
  • Daily progress notes record the plan, not just the observations
  • Critical results are communicated by the laboratory directly to the treating team
  • Discharge summaries are prepared by the treating unit and checked before handover

If you are unclear who is primarily responsible for a patient's care, ask the nursing station. You are entitled to know, and to speak with that consultant.

Not sure which department you need?
