Neurology

Stroke, epilepsy, headache and nerve disorders assessed with urgency.

About the Neurology department

Neurology at SIMS handles conditions of the brain, spinal cord, nerves and muscles — from acute stroke, where treatment is measured in minutes, to long-term conditions such as epilepsy, Parkinson's disease and migraine, where the goal is control and quality of life.

Stroke is the department's most time-sensitive presentation. A patient who reaches the hospital within the treatment window can be assessed, scanned and considered for clot-dissolving therapy — but the window is narrow, which is why the department repeats one message constantly: sudden weakness on one side, facial droop or slurred speech means calling 108 immediately, not waiting until morning.

The department works closely with neurosurgery, critical care and physiotherapy so that a patient's journey from emergency to rehabilitation does not require moving between hospitals.

Frequently asked questions

Who is the best neurologist in Anantapur?

The right neurologist is the one whose experience matches your problem. At SIMS Hospital, Anantapur, neurology care is provided by Dr. Tirupathi Kedar (Consultant Neurophysician). Book with a consultant by name, or describe your symptoms and the appointment desk will match you to the right specialist.

What is the stroke treatment window?

Clot-dissolving therapy is generally considered within four and a half hours of symptom onset, and some patients may be candidates for intervention slightly later. The clock starts when symptoms began — not when you noticed them. Reach the hospital immediately.

Does epilepsy mean lifelong medication?

Not always. Many patients become seizure-free and, after a sustained period without seizures, medication may be reduced under supervision. Never stop anti-epileptic medication on your own — abrupt withdrawal can trigger a severe seizure.

My headaches are frequent. Do I need a scan?

Most headaches do not need imaging. A scan is advised when there are warning features — sudden severe onset, headache with fever and neck stiffness, new headache after age 50, headache that wakes you from sleep, or headache with weakness, vision loss or seizures.
