CPR and first-aid training for school teachers

A hands-on CPR and first-aid workshop for teachers and school staff, covering cardiac arrest, choking, seizures, burns and drowning. Participants practise chest compressions on manikins rather than watching a demonstration.

A child or adult who collapses in cardiac arrest has a few minutes in which bystander chest compressions make the difference between survival and death. In a district where an ambulance may take fifteen or twenty minutes to reach a school, the person standing closest is the treatment.

The workshop is deliberately practical. Participants practise chest compressions on manikins until the rate and depth are correct, learn rescue breathing and the recovery position, and work through the specific emergencies a school actually faces — choking on food, a febrile seizure, a fall from height, a burn in the kitchen, and drowning in a water tank or open well.

The session also covers what not to do, which in first aid matters as much as what to do. No spoon or key in the mouth during a seizure. No ice, toothpaste, oil or turmeric on a burn. No oil massage or bone-setting for a suspected fracture. No food or water to an unconscious person.

Faculty from emergency medicine and critical care run the training, and each school is left with a printed emergency checklist covering what to do, whom to call and what information to give the ambulance crew.

Schools in Anantapur and the surrounding mandals can request a session for their staff through /contact-us.
